Many thanks to everyone who entered their photographs into the EUSAS Photography Competition – there were over 30 entries and they were all of a very high standard. Congratulations are extended to Angel Hsiao who was awarded first prize (and a £30 Analogue Books voucher) and to Paul McDonald who was awarded second place and a £10 Analogue Books voucher. Our thanks also to Victoria Clare Bernie for lending her keen eye to the judging process and for the fascinating seminar she gave on her work as a digital video artist.

Friday 14th October, 6.30pm for 7.00 start – Lecture Theatre 183 @ Old College
EUSAS are delighted to announce this lecture, to be given by CJ Lim, of Studio8 Architects and Professor of Architecture and Cultural Design at the Bartlett and winner of the 2006 Royal Academy of Arts London Grand Architecture Prize (past winners of which include Norman Foster and Richard Rogers).
‘SHORT STORIES: London in two-and-a-half-dimensions’
“Combining place and fiction, CJ Lim and Ed Liu take well-known institutions, epochs and lifestyles from tens sties across the city of London and renders them fantastic in a string of architectural short stories. The medium is an intersection of paper assemblages and text, occupying a liminal territory where familiar characters find themselves in unexpected environments and places transform into active protagonists. The stories have been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts and the Victoria and Albert Museum but are collected for the first time in a single volume, laid out as one phantasmagoric city vision. Painstakingly constructed, the stories encompass a retelling of the ‘Three Little Pigs’ at Smithfield, a dating agency at Battersea, and a ringed transport system manifesting as a celestial river over the great metropolis. Enthralling and inspirational, this cabinet of curiosity and wonder depicts a vision of the city that is immoral, anarchic, unscientific and at the same time glorious, ravishing and a pleasure to behold.”
Following the lecture, copies of his new book (which shares the same title as the lecture) will be available at the specially discounted price of £15 (normal retail price £19.99). Cash only.
Prior to the lecture, an exhibition of the sixth year Island Territories investigations will be open in Studio 5 – we warmly invite you to come and see our work.
Thank you to everyone who came to the first EUSAS lecture of the season! There was a great turnout and we hope you all enjoyed the lecture as much as we did.
We’re very excited to be able to announce a further four lectures on the horizon: CJ Lim on the 14th October; Allan Murray on the 30th October; Andy Stoane on the 18th November and Rural Design on the 25th November. We’ll announce more details nearer the time and hope to see you there!
